Hello, my name is Cristina Trif, and I am a third-year archaeology student. I discovered my love for history since I was child, however I had an affinity for science, as a result archaeology offered me the opportunity to combine them.
What in means to be a female archaeologist?
To my surprise there are a lot of women that have chosen this career. There is even a joke about it:
‘’ -Why there are so many female archaeologists?
-Because they like to dig the past. ‘’
Archaeology requires a lot of patience which might be the reason why there are a lot of women in the field. To extend that, the work on the site is not as it really seems and how a lot of people perceive it. The artefacts are not clustered in the ground in general, most of them are not obvious eighter as they are normally cover in mud and dirt. This again would be another reason why women might be better at this job as we are in general better observers.
However, there are some downsides that not every woman would be comfortable with. The most obvious reason with be that you get dirt and I mean REALLY DIRTY in Image 1 is very obviously portrayed how my hands looked even though I was wearing gloves, as suggested early there are not very lady like hands. Moreover as an archaeologist you work even on harsh weather, as you can imagine the outfits are not very elegant or put together, the main aim of an archaeologist is to accommodate the weather so very waterproof clothes and of course safety boots…
